The one when someone does a reading...

When you hear the word “reading”, a lot of people automatically think of the bible but what we should really call it is VIP contribution. Reasons NOT to include a reading in your ceremony could be a) you read somewhere that a wedding should have one, or b) your parent/sister/best friend/celebrant thinks you should!

In my opinion, there are only two reasons to consider having someone read aloud during your ceremony.  Either the person you've asked is incredibly special to you and you want to include them in your ceremony OR what is being read has significant meaning to you as a couple.

If you have chosen to include a reading for reason #1, Google might be struggling to find the perfect piece of writing that is original and perfect for you!  Why not ask your VIP to look for something that reminds them of you as a couple? Or ditch the idea of a reading altogether and request an interpretative dance or a re-enactment of your favourite cinematic declaration of love!

Whatever you decide, a “reading” is an opportunity to do things differently, be memorable or honour a family tradition.  If you do consider yourself more of a traditionalist but want a contemporary piece of poetry, keep scrolling!
